fragmentos de cantiga de cipó, povo Kaxinawá, AC/ fragments of a liana song, Kaxinawá people, state of Acre

This is a fragment adapted from nishi pae (liana) songs of the Huni Kuin, also known as Kaxinawá or Caxinauá, a people consisting of about ,500 individuals living in villages on the banks of the River Jordão, in the state of Acre, and whose language belongs to the Pano family. These songs are transmitted by the white Boa, which appears when one drinks ayahuasca to see Òthe liana worldÓ, a practice which occurs approximately twice or three times a month; the aim is to attain Yuxin, that is the life force, which permeates all living beings on earth, and whose origin myth tells that the women learned to make designs from a being that metamorphoses into a woman, her skin decorated with geometrical patterns copied from the skin of the white Boa, the origin of all the Kenê, o Kene Kuin (true design) graphisms, an important mark of Kaxinawá identity. By transforming these patterns into real designs at the very moment the visions appear, human beings approach the Òluminous world of the godsÓ. This manifestation of anima Ð Yuxin, spirit Ð represents the path that unites water with the sun. The snake-woman comes from the bottom of the lake which separates mortals from immortals to transmit all her knowledge to human beings, includ- ing music and design. To learn the songs, make the embroidery and designs it is necessary to eat the plants which manifest this power, the piripiri and ayahuasca. With these plants the vision becomes sharper and the women materialize these Kenê images picked up by the mind, transforming them into music, body painting, embroidery, fabrics, pottery, wood, work with beads etc. Visão (Vision) is therefore an adaptation, poetic licence, of a musical fragment of the manifestation of Kaxinawá beauty when one drinks nishi pae.
