Composição originalmente escrita para o cravo; sua construção é baseada em um baixo-ostinato simples de quatro compassos, com variações melódicas nas vozes superiores. Esta estrutura é muito utilizada tanto na música barroca - em formas como a chaconna e a passacaglia - quanto em diversas linguagens contemporâneas. Aqui, a kalimba, instrumento feito de cabaça e teclas de metal - utilizada pelos andarilhos africanos em suas longas caminhadas - contrapõem-se ao cravo das cortes européias.

This composition, originally written for the harpsichord, is based on a simple four-bar ostinato bass with melodic variation in the higher parts. This structure is widely used both in baroque music as in the chaconna and the passacaglia and in various styles of contemporary music. The kalimba, an instrument made of calabash and metal keys, used by African wanderers in their long journeys, contrasts with the harpsichord of the European courts.
